SPECULUM - The historical novel about the High Middle Ages & Sachsenspiegel

Crime thriller - court report - satire and contemporary mirror

One week each described in the time of the winter and summer solstice raises questions. Eike von Repgow, the man who would one day write the Sachsenspiegel, is a young man. Eico was supposed to spend his days at Falkenstein Castle in 1178 studying Latin and Greek and practising his knightly weapons. Eico's curiosity led him from one adventure to the next. What do the nails in the hands and feet of the old lord of the castle Konrad have to do with the Benedictines and the death of the count? Who has the right of way on the roads of the Middle Ages? Is the murder of shepherd Skudde linked to his mint caramels? Exciting and atmospheric stories, which often end in a dungeon, tell of practised law, customs and traditions of the High Middle Ages, of Christian and pagan relics that merge and retain their validity to the present day. A life that will culminate in the Sachsenspiegel. Acting figures come from 1178 - even from today. The author has even included the occasional mythical creature.

Each chapter refers to a topic in the Sachsenspiegel. From everyday regulations to big politics.
