Literary gardens became fashionable in the 18th century. Not only the nobility, but also numerous poets owned gardens that they designed themselves, where they received friends, organised social gatherings, read, wrote poetry or studied plants and botany. The lecture uses various examples to trace the connection between literature and gardens.
The gardens of Central German poets such as Johann Wilhelm Ludwig will also come into focus. Dr Jana Kittelmann is head of the Research and Collection Department at the Dessau-Wörlitz Cultural Foundation and has been working on this topic for some time.
There is no separate admission charge for this event. All spectators only need an admission ticket for the Bürgerpark.
