In her book "The Poets' Mountain", Catharina Karn writes about the Brocken in the Harz Mountains. A mountain that has been visited and described like no other for centuries by writers, poets and journalists from Germany and abroad.

In 15 portraits, readers accompany not only the famous Brocken poets such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Heinrich Heine and Hans Christian Andersen on their hikes up to the summit. The book also tells of lesser-known writers who describe their journeys through Germany's northernmost mountain range, sometimes with humour, sometimes with melancholy. The author takes a look at four centuries and frames the portraits with texts that tell of the literary developments of the various periods and the historical events on the Brocken. All of this makes it clear what a significant influence the Brocken had - and still has - on literary creation in Germany.

The German scholar and cultural scientist has enlisted the help of historian Uwe Lagatz for the book. He enriches the book with portraits of writers, but above all with his unrivalled knowledge of the history of the Harz Mountains. The book is illustrated with a twinkle in her eye by Sabine Riemenschneider, winner of the Wernigerode Art Prize.
