Prof. Dr Felix Biermann, Halle (Saale) and Stettin/Szczecin: Peasant war in the idyllic forest - results of archaeological research at Himmelpforte Monastery near Wernigerode

The Augustinian monastery Himmelpforte was an important religious, economic and cultural centre in the region from the 13th to the 16th century, and was particularly important for the nearby town of Wernigerode. Destroyed during the Peasants' War and abolished during the Reformation, its buildings have now disappeared from the earth's surface. In recent years, however, archaeological research by the Saxony-Anhalt State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and Archaeology has uncovered significant relics of the monastery and its church, which, together with an extremely diverse range of finds, provide exciting insights into the history of this place and its former inhabitants. The richly illustrated lecture will provide an overview.

There is no separate admission charge for this event. All listeners need is an admission ticket for the Bürgerpark.
