In the heart of Wernigerode, opposite the main station of the Harz narrow-gauge railway, lies the railway-themed Hotel Altora, where Restaurant 1835 is hidden. Also known as "the restaurant with the drinks locomotive" in connoisseur circles, both in-house and out-of-house guests have the opportunity to be pampered in the cosy railway ambience and watch the famous Harz steam locomotives in action.

Would you rather be in the middle of it all?

Then use our beer garden facing the main entrance to be closer to the action or simply enjoy the good weather. Extra glazing around the terrace and two large sunshades ensure the feel-good factor here too.

"Together you eat less alone"

For larger groups of up to 25 people, our separate fireside lounge invites you to share a meal together. Whether it's a family celebration, biker meeting, conference or regulars' table, just get in touch with us. We will also be happy to help you with the planning!

All aboard, we're off on a culinary journey!

Behind the scenes of the food truck awaits a creative kitchen team that aims to fire the satisfaction of its guests with exquisite ingredients, exemplary craftsmanship and the right amount of time. The motto: simple and good, or simply good!

Our journey takes us through light salads, pasta and fish, past hearty soups and braised dishes from the home-style kitchen. With a short stop at our schnitzel variations, both veal and pork, we continue towards juicy burgers and steaks from the grill, not forgetting the homemade crisps. If you haven't had your fill by now, please take a closer look! To the right you will see old GDR classics, such as our spiced meat, sour meat, Soljanka or the fried black pudding, known then as now under the name "Tote Oma" (dead granny ). Nostalgia for some, perhaps pent-up demand for others. To your left you have other classics of German cuisine, such as the Toast Hawaii or veal liver Berlinstyle, and in a new guise the Stramme Max, reinterpreted as the Stramme Harzer.

As we slowly approach the end of the line, we have a few special treats for our cheese lovers: baked camembert, marinated feta from the oven pan or the old Harz tradition, Harz cheese with music- there's no way around it. Our heavenly desserts then form the end of our exciting journey, but it's far from over.

At the heart of our dining car is our friendly service team, who are on hand to offer our guests advice and first-class hospitality for a pleasant journey. In tow, our little drinks locomotive, which tirelessly brings drinks of all kinds to its guests sitting at one of its six stations - the highlight for every guest!

Choose from freshly tapped regional beer, excellent vintner wines from Rheinhessen or sparkling aperitif creations. For cold days, a wide range of different teas or full-bodied coffee specialities from the filter machine are available. The tea and beans served are, of course, certified fair trade and of organic quality. To round off the evening, we are happy to serve you our wide range of whiskies or let you browse further in the digestif section of our drinks menu. For a longer stay, we recommend our gin, long drink or cocktail section, where even those who prefer their drink non-alcoholic will surely find what they are looking for.

The afternoon fare is attractive but too late for you? No problem, we also have the right train connection for breakfast lovers and those who would like to be. From 7:00 a.m., the 1835 is freshly charred and fired up to start the day. A warm pot of coffee or tea and off you go towards the breakfast buffet. First stop at the crispy rolls, light and dark, and the fresh bread from the regional baker. Then it's on to warm egg dishes, crispy bacon or crunchy Nuremberg sausages, surrounded by homemade salads and fresh fruit and vegetables. Well loaded, the soft dishes are now placed at the sausage and cheese buffet. Here you get to see a wide selection of different cheese and sausage specialities. And the best part? We get all our sausage products and a large part of our meat from the renowned, local butcher's shop Leiste.

For the sweet-toothed among you, we stop briefly at our range of quark and desserts. Cornflakes, muesli, jams and honey from the regional beekeeper, a true paradise! After that, a quick juice to top it up and our journey ends in pleasure. Don't be in a hurry, our breakfast team will take care of unloading.

Fancy some more? Then book your ride in the 1835 right here, we would be happy to welcome you soon!
