The hiking route "Runde von Sankt Andreasberg" leads in the middle of the National Park around the Oderteich along some hiking highlights. The hiking trail is considered to be of medium difficulty and is therefore ideally suited for every fitness level. The only prerequisite for the hike is, as always, sturdy footwear for the mostly easy paths. The Oderteich can be hiked completely around. Paved paths, plank paths and root paths alternate.

About the Oderteich:

The Oderteich is located between Braunlage, St. Andreasberg and Claustal-Zellerfeld and has a beautiful landscape. In summer it is an ideal place to swim. Hikers and mountain bikers can start beautiful and, if necessary, extended tours from here. The Oderteich is a historic dam. It was built by Andreasberg miners from 1715 to 1722. Since 2010, it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Upper Harz Water Regal along with other structures.

The loop starts at the bus stop in Oderbrück and first leads to the first hiking highlight, the Plankenweg, once you reach the banks of the Oderteich. The well-maintained plank path already offers a great view of the lake and makes it much easier to walk around it. The Plankenweg is designed to protect nature, so that the Oderteich can be largely circumnavigated without trampling parts of nature. Just a little further south along the route, an enchanting view of the western shore appears afterwards - a beautiful view in the midst of nature at any time of year.

After about 2.6 kilometres of the hike, you reach the south bank of the Oderteich and with it the granite obelisks. The 10 granite pillars were used to protect the flood ditch from ice and are now a vivid monument to the Harz water management - an absolute must for every hiker. This is followed by a natural root path on which there is a risk of stumbling. It is therefore advisable to keep your eyes open, especially on this section.

A little above the northern part of the Oderteich follows the "Rotenbeek Bach", which offers a great view of the course of the Oder into the Oderteich, the grasses native to it and the moor opposite. At this point, the Rotenbeek Bach flows into the Oderteich. Particularly before sunset, there are wonderful light effects.

The last highlight of the Oderteich hike is the Sonnenkappe - it is a nice place for a last rest before the hike ends at the bus stop.
