The mountain town of Sankt Andreasberg not only impresses with its breathtaking location high up in the Harz National Park, but also with its varied history and numerous tourist attractions. Nature lovers will get their money's worth in the town, which was first mentioned in 1487 and lies around 600 metres above sea level, as will winter sports enthusiasts and families.

Tourism offers in the climatic health resort of Sankt Andreasberg

Sankt Andreasberg is the highest town in the Harz Mountains and offers a wide range of recreational opportunities. Forests and mountain meadows around the town invite you to hike and linger. The highest observatory in northern Germany offers rare insights and views of the starry sky. As a climatic health resort, Sankt Andreasberg has a particularly good climate and is therefore ideal for a peaceful, relaxing holiday. Nevertheless, there is plenty of action in the mountain town, as there is a paintball course and a high ropes course in addition to the summer toboggan run. Skiing and tobogganing are possible in winter, and the snowtubing facility also guarantees fun and entertainment.

UNESCO World Heritage Site Upper Harz Water Regal

Sankt Andreasberg is characterised above all by its mining history. The Oberharzer Wasserwirtschaft, also known as the Oberharzer Wasserregal, was created back in the 16th century to drive the water wheels of the mines, which were the most important economic factor in the Harz Mountains for a long time. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The pre-industrial water management system, which consists of kilometres of ditches, ponds and tunnels, can be impressively explored in and around Sankt Andreasberg. In the Samson Mine Museum, the history of mining in the Harz Mountains is close enough to touch. The Oderteich reservoir, which is part of the Upper Harz Water Regime, has a circular hiking trail; in the summer months, the southern section also serves as a natural swimming pool.

Explore the Harz Mountains from Sankt Andreasberg

Sankt Andreasberg is located on the Brocken bypass route of the Harzer Hexenstieg, which continues from Torfhaus towards Braunlage and Thale through the spectacular mountain world of the Hochharz. In addition to hiking, mountain biking and Nordic walking are particularly popular in this area.
