Waldbad Ilfeld

Historic charm meets solar power: the Waldbad in the Ilfelder Valley, which opened in 1927, is heated using environmentally friendly methods – and the Harzquerbahn stops right at the entrance.

Nestled between mountains and woodland lies the Ilfelder Waldbad – and has been since 1927. If you’re travelling without a car, getting here is particularly easy: the Harz narrow-gauge railway stops right at the entrance at the ‘Waldbad Ilfeld’ on-demand stop, and the number 23 bus (at the ‘Talbrauerei’ stop) is also just a few minutes’ walk away.

The pool water is heated in an environmentally friendly way using a solar system – and since the major refurbishment in 2021, you can swim here in freshly prepared pools. For swimmers, there’s the large pool, alongside a non-swimmers’ pool and a baby pool, as well as a diving board and a diving tower. And if you’re feeling peckish, the kiosk sells chips, currywurst, ice cream and cold drinks.

A toptip for getting there: from the Schanzenbrücke starting point, a beautiful walking and cycling path runs alongside the narrow-gauge railway straight to the Waldbad. There is plenty of on-site parking.
