Unique art objects, scenes from the everyday life of the townspeople from past centuries and geological finds that take you through the history of the earth: the Goslar Museum lets you dive deep into the history of the UNESCO World Heritage town of Goslar and its surroundings.

Extraordinary ...

The all-bronze crodo altar in the Goslar Museum was probably made in the late 11th century and is considered the only metal church altar from the Romantic era. The copper used came from the Rammelsberg mine, which was closed in 1988 and is also a cultural heritage site. The altar, like many other exhibits, stood in the collegiate church of St. Simon and Judas, which was demolished in 1820.

The magnificent Goslar Gospels from the 13th century is captivating not only because of its rich and imaginative ornamentation, but also because of the rare feature that the original binding has been preserved to this day.

Other objects of note in the museum in Goslar include a coin collection with over 1000 coinages, a mountain jug from 1477 and the original of the Goslar fountain eagle from the 14th century.

Everyday ...

In addition, the Goslar museum shows scenes from the everyday life of the inhabitants from ten centuries with the everyday objects of the respective time.

... and geological evidence of the past

Stones, minerals and fossils, on the other hand, illustrate the history of the earth. The three permanent exhibitions open to the public, "On the Trail of Life", "The Classic Geological Square Mile in the Geopark Harz-Braunschweiger Land - Eastphalia" and "From Ore to Metal" about metallurgy in Goslar and the surrounding area, complete the range of exhibits.

In addition, changing exhibitions make the museum in Goslar a worthwhile detour during your visit to the thousand-year-old imperial city in the Harz Mountains. The Goslar Museum is located on the Museumsufer, on the Abzucht, a tributary of the Oker. The building, which dates from 1514, was donated by the factory owner H. Borchers in 1922. The museum is run by the city of Goslar, the Naturwissenschaftliche Verein Goslar e. V. (Goslar Natural Science Association), founded in 1852, and the Museumsverein Goslar e. V. (Goslar Museum Association), founded in 1905.
