Vienenburg is located in the north-western Harz foothills and forms part of the town of Goslar. It is not far from both Goslar and the popular spa town of Bad Harzburg. The district of Goslar is a popular starting point for tours through the Harz Mountains. Nature lovers, culture enthusiasts and sporty holidaymakers all feel equally at home here.

Places of interest in Vienenburg

The keep of the castle of the same name rises into the sky as a landmark of Vienenburg. From this lookout tower you can enjoy a panoramic view of the varied landscape of the Harz Mountains. If you are interested in the history of Vienenburg, visit the local history museum. The exhibition focuses on industry, crafts, trade and commerce and provides insights into the mining tradition of the Goslar district.

History and gastronomy harmonise perfectly in the nearby Wöltingerode monastery estate, which invites holidaymakers to feast and relax. Last but not least, the Kaisersaal (emperor's hall) next to the railway station and the Protestant and Catholic churches are well worth a look. In fact, Vienenburg has the oldest railway station in Germany that is still standing.

An excursion naturally leads to the centre of Goslar, the old imperial city with its outstanding imperial palace. The town hall with its hall of homage, several town fortifications, the Zwinger and many other historical monuments make this historic town in the Harz so special.

Nature and recreation on holiday in Vienenburg

The recreational area of Lake Vienenburg is particularly inviting for hiking and swimming. Boating and sailing are equally possible here. Anglers also get their money's worth. A walk around the lake and watching the enchanting sunset promises romantic moments. Hikers can also climb the wooded Harly mountain range and gaze into the distance from the lookout tower there. The same applies to the Menneckenberg, which forms a striking headland. In general, the Harznordrand Fault provides exciting geological insights into the earth's history. Finally, there are wonderful cycle paths along the rivers Oker and Radau, on which you can quickly reach other places in the Harz.
