This tour is long and full of mountainous sections, but it rewards you with a whole series of stops worth seeing.

It starts at Schierke railway station and initially leads 12 kilometres in an easterly direction to Elbingerode. This is where the actual circular route begins, which takes you all the way around the Rappbode Dam.

The route now heads south and after a short distance, the Königshütte waterfall awaits visitors. The route continues towards Tanne and from there heads east via Trautenstein to Hasselfelde. Stiege and Allrode follow before you approach the spectacular views. The easternmost point of the tour is in the beautiful Bode Valley and offers lasting impressions and photo opportunities near Treseburg.

The route then takes you around the Arnsberg to the Wendefurth dam with its impressive dimensions. Just a few hundred metres further on, the trail leads past the pumped-storage reservoir to the even larger dam wall, the Rappbode Reservoir. This is also home to several of the Harz highlights, such as the Megazipline double rope slide and the Titan RT suspension bridge.

From here, the route heads west again, first through the cave village of Rübeland and then to Elbingerode, where you rejoin the road to Schierke.
