From Clausthal-Zellerfeld to the Oker reservoir, around it and back

As the name suggests, the "Okertalsperre Runde von Clausthal-Zellerfeld " cycle route starts in the beautiful town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld and leads from there past the western edge of the mountain town of Altenau up to the Oker reservoir. There the cycle route runs around the Oker reservoir through the town of Schulenberg and back over the dam towards the starting point.

The starting point in Clausthal-Zellerfeld is the Eschenbacher Straße bus stop, which is easily accessible by all means of transport. You should also be in good physical condition, as the route climbs 610 metres in altitude over a total of 43 kilometres and takes around 2:48 hours. The first highlight of the cycle tour is the Oker dam and the reservoir near Altenau. The dam wall dams the reservoir of the Oker reservoir but is not quite as large as the large, well-known dam wall of the Oker reservoir. A bridge with a beautiful view!

Continuing north-east along the shore, the route leads through the Oker Valley, from where you have a wonderful view of the reservoir. Shortly afterwards, the Kalbetal valley follows with an equally beautiful view and an ideal opportunity for a rest. At the northernmost point of the reservoir is the Okeratsumauer with an impressive view over the Oker reservoir with the Weißwasserbrücke bridge as far as Schulenberg. On the other side, you descend to the foot of the dam wall with the rest of the Oker, which is not channelled to the turbine at Romkerhalle.

Tip: There is a café with a snack bar right next to it.

The route then continues via Schulenberg over the bridge on the western bank of the reservoir back to the outward route. From here, the return route is exactly the same as the outward route until the route finally ends back in Clausthal-Zellerfeld.
