The "Round of Benneckenrode" is considered a difficult hike and requires surefootedness, good fitness and ideally alpine experience. The hike takes more than six hours and covers a total of 19 kilometres. The starting point of the hike is the Rosstrappe bus stop, after which the first hiking highlight awaits visitors after just a few metres. From the Bülowhöhe vantage point , you can look out over Thale and the route ahead.
The viewpoint takes its name from the chief forester "von Bülow", who made the paths around the Rosstrappe accessible to hikers.
Hikers first walk northwards, then turn downhill at the Rosstrappe and after 4 kilometres from the start of the hike, they reach the hiking trail along the Bode. Here you can enjoy the most beautiful nature and sunshine and relax. Continue along the Bode past Königsruhe to the Teufelsbrücke bridge. It is also one of the hiking highlights in the Harz Mountains par excellence and symbolises the return to civilised terrain for man and river. Just a little further on, you can hear the Bode flowing powerfully through the rocks in the Bode basin - simply breathtaking. It is not for nothing that the Bodekessel is often jokingly referred to as Germany's "little Grand Canyon".
Our hiking trail continues along the Bode for quite a while and finally leads to the Bodetal Hexenstieg at the westernmost point of the tour. The uniqueness of the wonderful landscape of the Bode Valley and the Bode basin attracts numerous hikers, especially at weekends, so if you prefer to enjoy the solitude of a hike, you should think about when you want to do it.
The next point of interest after just over 12 kilometres from the start of the hike is La Viershöhe, which offers a wonderful view of the Bode Valley and the Harz foreland in addition to the Harz Hiking Needle stamp point 72. The name of the height commemorates the head forester La Viers, who was the highest-ranking forestry official in the Prussian province of Saxony for the Harz forest areas in the 19th century.
The next highlight at the car park at Hexentanzplatz is another well-known viewpoint, the Bodetalblick. There is basically nothing more to add to the name, as it offers a wonderful view of the picturesque landscape and the bare rock faces embedded in nature. After the next viewpoint Bodetal / Thale, the hike follows the same route back to the car park via a northern arc.
