From Darlingerode through the Ilse valley to the Brocken and back via Isenburg

This cycle route is also about what is probably the most beautiful view in the Harz region: the view from the Brocken. The quite difficult cycle route is 35 kilometres long and takes just under 3 hours from Darlingerode in the direction of the Ilse and from there up to the Brocken. Once at the top, the route follows almost the same route through the Ilse valley back to Darlingerode via Isenburg.

The starting point is the railway station in Darlingerode, which is easily accessible by all means of transport. From here, the route heads south-west straight towards the River Ilse through the Ilse valley. A very beautiful cycle route with some marvellous views and a gradient of just under 18%. Once at the top, the well-known highlights of the Brocken await: The Brocken railway and the Brockenhaus itself. Depending on the weather, holidaymakers and tourists can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view here. To avoid the sometimes large crowds of visitors (especially in the summer months), cyclists should consider climbing the Brocken during the week.

Follow the same route back along the Ilse river through the Ilse valley. Shortly before the fork in the road, however, the route continues northwards along the Ilse Falls up to the town of Ilsenburg. On the way back from Ilsenburg to Darlingerode, about 50 metres from the cycle path, you will find the Drübeck Monastery. The former Benedictine convent, the centrepiece of which is the convent church of St. Vitus zu Drübeck, can be visited daily from 06:30 to 19:00. Guided tours are available from April to October from Tuesday to Saturday at 2.00 pm and on Sundays and public holidays at 11.00 am and 2.00 pm or by appointment.

After a few kilometres in the direction of Darlingerode, cyclists finally reach the starting point of the route again, where the cycle route ends.
