Lange Bank Harztor

Are you planning a trip to the southern Harz region and looking for a special place to visit? Then the long bench in Harztor is just the thing for you! It is not only the longest bench in the southern Harz, but probably the longest bench in all of Thuringia.

With an impressive length of 30.5 metres, it towers over the landscape and is a true highlight of the region. At normal times, about 50 people can fit on the bench at the same time. To give you a little better idea: If you were to stand the bench upright, it would reach about halfway up the Nordhausen Petri Tower.

The history of the long bench

The idea for this unusual bench came from the mayor Stephan Klante, who himself regularly walks there with his dog and is thrilled by the view. He read about the supposedly longest bench in Thuringia in the Eichsfeld region and got in touch with Steffen Peix. Steffen is the farmer from Harzungen who owns the meadow where the mega-bench now stands. He thought it was a great idea and said that the bench would not interfere with the mowing of the meadow. A perfect cooperation!

How can the bench be reached?

The Lange Bank is located between Niedersachswerfen and Harzungen on the so-called Hohlgrube on the Kirchberg. Up there, a breathtaking panoramic view of the southern Harz awaits you, stretching over the Poppenberg tower, the weather vane, the ruins of Hohnstein Castle and the Mühlberg.

The long bench can easily be reached on foot or by bicycle. If you are coming from the east, just before you enter Niedersachswerfen, turn left into an asphalt road. Follow this road to the end and then continue left up the hill. After a short walk of about five minutes, the bench with its beautiful view is already waiting for you.
