The Klusberge mountains near Halberstadt have long been a favourite excursion destination in the region. This is mainly due to the wide variety of interesting and challenging hiking trails and special natural spectacles in the form of caves and rocks (see also: Klusfelsen). One particular highlight that has probably been attracting people for hundreds, if not thousands of years, is the so-called five-finger rock. The special rock formation, which looks like the image of five fingers from a distance, has probably been visited by people since time immemorial and is still a popular excursion destination today.

The natural spectacle of the five-finger rocks

If you follow the hiking trail from Halberstadt northwards through the Klusberge mountains, you will spot the special rock formation from afar, the name of which quickly becomes clear. The approximately ten metre high rocks, which themselves stand on a small hill of sandstone, immediately give the impression that a hand is greeting observers. The fact that you can see the rocks from a distance is a relatively new phenomenon. Just a few years ago, everything here was forested and you had to get close to the rocks to see them - but this is no longer the case thanks to natural developments and targeted work to expose the rocks.

It is definitely worth climbing up to the small rock formation. You can take a look for yourself at the many small inscriptions and symbols that have probably been carved into the stone over the centuries. It is also these signs that make it likely for researchers that the rocks were used long ago as a meeting place and perhaps even as a place for rites. It is theoretically possible to climb up - small steps have also been carved into the rock so that even inexperienced climbers should be able to climb the "fingers".

For hikers, the Fünffingerfelsen are a good starting point for further tours through the Klusberge. After enjoying the view of Halberstadt, various hiking trails lead in different directions and to the various other bizarre formations that make the mountains so popular with holidaymakers and tourists.
