Our "Bode Valley - Bodekessel Round" starts in Thale and leads along the Bode through the Bode Valley past sights and viewpoints such as the Sonnenklippe, the Bode Valley Witches' Trail, the Devil's Bridge, the Maiden's Bridge and the Witches' Bridge. The starting point of the hike is Thale railway station , from where the hike first heads towards the Bode, where hikers finally reach the hiking trail along the Bode. The tranquil and unspoilt nature of the Bode literally casts a spell over every hiker and offers an unforgettable experience in a class of its own.

If you follow the path along the Bode, you will eventually come to the Jungfernbrücke bridge right next to the Königsruhe inn. The name of the Jungfernbrücke is due to the filigree construction of the bridge . It was said that only virgins could cross the bridge, as otherwise it would probably collapse. However, if you want to cross the bridge today, you don't have to be a lightweight - after all, the bridge has outlived these kinds of tales by several centuries.

What follows are the next two bridges, the Witches' Bridge and the Devil's Bridge. The Devil's Bridge signals the return to civilised terrain. At this point, you can enjoy a beer, wine or home-cooked meal at the nearby Königsruh inn. The route now continues for a few kilometres through the Bode Valley past the Bodekessel to the Hexenstieg and the Sonnenklippe, which is the furthest point of the hike.

The Sonnenklippe is one of the mystical and legendary places in the Bode Valley where a beech tree has been clinging to the rock for many years. In addition to the fantastic view over the valley, the Sonnenklippe also has the Harz Hiking Needle stamp box 69 to offer. If you like, you can extend the hike by 15 - 20 minutes for a trip to Treseburg Castle, where a few restaurants invite you to stop for a bite to eat. The trail then leads back along the outward route.
