Arnstein Castle, Harkerode Castle and other excursion destinations

Not only do a number of holiday accommodations and guesthouses as well as restaurants and pubs invite you to linger, numerous leisure facilities and sights also offer unforgettable experiences for every taste. Many tourists and holidaymakers will be familiar with Arnstein Castle in the district of Harkerode, whose ruins gave the town its name. It is located on a 210 metre high hill south of Aschersleben between Harkerode and Sylda. It was probably built in the 12th century and offers holidaymakers and tourists an insight into the main house, the staircase and the cellar vaults during a visit to the castle. The ruins can be reached on foot from the car park between Harkerode and Sylda or via a climb from Harkerode. Once at the top, visitors can enjoy a far-reaching view of the picturesque Einetal valley and Harkerode.

Also worth a visit is Harkerode Castle, which is closely linked to the history of the von Knigge family, who lived in the castle until 1945, when their property was expropriated as part of the land reform. The Sandersleben Town Museum offers insights into the town's extensive history and life in the 1920s. If you prefer to enjoy the region's nature, the castle park and monastery garden in Wiederstedt or the Harz herb trail are the perfect places to go. A flavourful journey of discovery through the world of herbs awaits you here. The garden contains over 500 plant species, making it one of the largest herb gardens in Germany.

Hiking in and around Arnstein

For hiking enthusiasts, a trip to the beautiful Leine Valley is particularly worthwhile, where animal enclosures at the Sporthotel await you on a hike towards Wippertal. There are also a number of other cycling and hiking routes to choose from thanks to the connection to the "Selketal Bodetal" cycling and hiking trail network.
