From Thale via Ballenstedt Castle to Quedlinburg
Our "Quedlinburg Round from Thale" is on relatively flat terrain and can therefore be classified as a medium-difficulty cycle route. The cycle route, which is just under 3 hours long, leads from the town of Thale to Ballenstedt Castle and then back to Thale via Quedlinburg.
The starting point is the Thale main railway station, from where the route first heads west to the first cycling highlight of the route: the Drei-Bogen bridge. The bridge was part of a railway connection from the Quedlinburg - Bad Suderode line to Quarmbeck. The bridge is no longer in use and only functions as a crossing point for walkers and cyclists, as paths lead from here in various directions in the region.
A little further on, near the town of Gernrode, lies the historic Bückemühle restaurant and guesthouse - an ideal opportunity to enjoy all the delicacies and specialities of the region during a short break. A little further west, the highlight of the tour awaits cyclists: Ballenstedt Castle. The residential palace of the former Prince of Anhalt-Bernburg is considered the landmark of the town of Ballenstedt and can be visited all year round for a small entrance fee.
The route then continues north past the Gegensteinen, a striking, freestanding rock formation of the Teufelsmauer (Devil's Wall) to the town of Quedlinburg. The town, known for its historic half-timbered houses, offers tourists sights worth seeing at every turn as well as good places to stop for refreshments. Passing the Teufelsstieg (Devil's Path), the route then heads back towards Thale, where the cycle tour ends at the railway station.
