With an imposing width of almost 5 metres and a height of 3 metres, this wooden construction is clad in bright red sheet metal and offers not only an unconventional place to sit, but also a historically valuable view of the Harz stream valleys, which stretch all the way to the former inner-German border.

As a special highlight, there is a special stamping station of the Harzer Wandernadel right next to the Red Sofa. Explore the picturesque surroundings of Benneckenstein, Sorge, Rothesütte, Sophienhof, Hohegeiß and Tanne and collect numerous Harzer Wandernadel stamps along the way.

The Red Sofa was created as part of the THEATERNATUR FESTIVAL 2019. Presented by the association Kulturrevier Harz e.V., this festival has been offering a multi-faceted selection of great in-house productions, guest performances and cultural events at the Waldbühne in Benneckenstein every August since 2014. In the play "The Legend of Worry and Misery" staged in 2019, dramatic scenes took place on the oversized sofa. Today, in its red robe, it rather invites you to linger. Originally designed as a prop for the festival, the sofa has now found a new purpose - it serves as an artistic installation and symbol of art and nature, accessible to anyone who wants to experience the beauty of this region.
