Of course, Wöltingerode Monastery is known far beyond its borders for its monastery distillery. Fine spirits have been distilled here since 1682. Whether it's an Edelgin, a marzipan liqueur or one of the other fruit liqueurs, you should definitely take part in one of the guided tours of the distillery at Wöltingerode Monastery. During the tour, you will learn how the spirits are made. Of course, you can also pick up a speciality or two to take home in the monastery's own shop.

Brief insight into the history of the monastery

Wöltingerode Monastery in the Harz Mountains is a former Benedictine monastery with a long history. First mentioned in 1174, it is still a large and immense monastery complex today. Since 1682, the monastery has been distilling the famous spirits such as noble brandies, for which the property is still known far beyond the country's borders.

The monastery experience trail: the best way to get to know Wöltingerode Monastery

The best way to get to know Wöltingerode Monastery is to follow the Monastery Experience Trail. It currently consists of nine individual stations and gives you a good insight into the origins and history of the monastery. Among other things, you will pass the monastery distillery with its historic steam engine, the monastery church and the monastery apiary. Also on the monastery trail are a fallow deer enclosure and the monastery herb garden. When you have completed this tour, we strongly recommend that you stop off at the "Klosterkrug" restaurant. When the weather is nice, you can make yourself comfortable in the beer garden. They serve recipes based on old monastery traditions as well as delicacies typical of the Harz Mountains.
